ดร.ธิดารัตน์ นิ่มเชื้อ นักวิจัยห้องปฏิบัติการเทคโนโลยีเอนไซม์ หน่วยวิจัยเทคโนโลยีชีวภาพจุลินทรีย์และชีวเคมีภัณฑ์ ศูนย์พันธุวิศวกรรมและเทคโนโลยีชีวภาพแห่งชาติ (ไบโอเทค) สวทช. ได้รับการคัดเลือกเป็น Young Affiliate ประจำปี 2561 ของ The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) ในสาขาวิทยาศาสตร์ชีวภาพ เพื่อสร้างเครือข่ายความร่วมมือระหว่าง Young Affiliates และ TWAS Fellows ในการเข้าร่วมประชุมต่างๆ ภายใต้โปรแกรม TWAS East and South-East Asia and the Pacific Regional Partner (TWAS-SAPREP) เป็นระยะเวลา 5 ปี (พศ. 2561 – 2565) โดยพิธีมอบรางวัลจัดขึ้นที่งานประชุม TWAS 14th General Conference & 28th general meeting เมือง Trieste ประเทศอิตาลี เมื่อวันที่ 27-29 พฤศจิกายน 2561 ที่ผ่านมา
ดร.ธิดารัตน์ เป็นนักวิจัยที่มีผลงานในสาขาวิทยาศาสตร์ชีวภาพเป็นจำนวนมาก โดยได้พัฒนาเทคโนโลยีที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเทคโนโลยีการผลิตเอนไซม์แบบครบวงจร และการใช้ประโยชน์เอนไซม์จากจุลชีพในกระบวนการทางอุตสาหกรรมมากว่า 10 ปี โดยมีความมุ่งมั่นในการนำองค์ความรู้ดังกล่าวมาใช้ในการสร้างสรรค์เทคโนโลยีที่ช่วยยกระดับอุตสาหกรรมของประเทศไทยให้ทัดเทียมกับนานาประเทศ ทำให้สามารถสร้างทีมวิจัยที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญตั้งแต่การคัดเลือกเอนไซม์ที่มีศักยภาพสูงในการนำไปใช้ในภาคอุตสาหกรรม การพัฒนาระบบการผลิตเอนไซม์ การทดสอบประสิทธิภาพการทำงานของเอนไซม์ในสภาวะการทำงานต่างๆ รวมไปถึงการพัฒนากระบวนการผสมสูตรเอนไซม์ให้เหมาะสมต่อการนำเอนไซม์ไปใช้ในระดับอุตสาหกรรมร่วมกับภาคเอกชน และการพัฒนากระบวนการเก็บรักษาเอนไซม์ โดยคำนึงถึงความเป็นไปได้ในเชิงเทคโนโลยีและเศรษฐศาสตร์ไปพร้อมๆ กัน ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นความก้าวหน้าที่โดดเด่นของนักวิจัยไทยที่สามารถแสดงให้เห็นถึงขีดความสามารถในการพัฒนางานวิจัยทางด้านเอนไซม์ไปสู่การนำไปใช้งานในภาคอุตสาหกรรมได้
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) เป็นสถาบันนานาชาติที่มุ่งพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีในประเทศที่กำลังพัฒนาเพื่อทำให้เกิดความก้าวหน้าทางวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีที่ยั่งยืน โดยในแต่ละปี TWAS จะทำการคัดเลือกบุคคลที่มีคุณสมบัติเหมาะสมในฐานะ Young Affiliates จำนวน 25 คน จาก 5 ภูมิภาคทั่วโลก ได้แก่ 1) Arab Region (TWAS-AREP) 2) Central and South Asia (TWAS-CASAREP) 3) East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific (TWAS-SAPREP) 4) Latin America and the Caribbean (TWAS-LACREP) และ 5) Sub-Saharan Africa (TWAS-SAREP) ที่ประสบความสำเร็จก่อนอายุ 40 ปี โดยพิจารณาจากผลงานวิจัยที่มีความโดดเด่นและมีความเป็นไปได้ในการสร้างผลกระทบต่อเศรษฐกิจและสังคมในระดับโลกเพื่อเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมต่างๆ ของ TWAS รวมทั้งส่งเสริมการร่วมวิจัยและสนับสนุนเงินทุนในการทำวิจัยภายในเครือข่ายของ TWAS
BIOTEC Researcher Appointed as “TWAS Young Affiliate 2018-2022”
Dr. Thidarat Nimchua, a researcher at Enzyme Technology Laboratory, Microbial Biotechnology and Biochemicals Research Unit, BIOTEC, was selected 2018 Young Affiliate in Biological Sciences by TWAS East and South-East Asia and the Pacific Regional Partner (TWAS-SAPREP). Each year, TWAS Regional Offices each select outstanding scientists under the age of 40 years to be ‘TWAS Young Affiliate’. The highly competitive honor is awarded to promising researchers from developing nations who demonstrate potential for generating high socioeconomic impact works at a global scale. During the five-year tenure, TWAS Young Affiliates will have opportunities to expand their network with other affiliates and with elected TWAS fellows and to attend international conferences.
The award ceremony was held at TWAS 14th General Conference & 28th General Meeting in Trieste, Italy from November 27-29, 2018.
Dr. Nimchua is recognized in biotechnology for her research achievements which revolve around the development of full spectrum enzyme technology and utilization of enzyme produced by microorganisms in industrial manufacturing processes for more than a decade. The knowledge accumulated throughout the years help boost the country’s industrial capabilities to meet international standards. The knowledge has also laid the solid ground work for her team to develop their expertize in screening of enzyme with potential to be used in industrial applications, development of enzyme production process, testing of enzyme performance under various conditions, development of enzyme formulation process suitable for various industrial applications and enzyme preservation. All the developments are carried out based on technological and economic feasibility studies. The award exemplifies how industry-relevant basic research could lead to real-world applications.
Founded in 1983, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is a merit-based academy that focuses on the advancement of science in developing countries through research, education, policy and diplomacy. Each year, TWAS chooses up to 25 Young Affiliates based on their achievements before the age of 40 and on their potential for future impact from 5 different regions, including (1) Arab Region (TWAS-AREP), (2) Central and South Asia (TWAS-CASAREP), (3) East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific (TWAS-SAPREP), (4) Latin America and the Caribbean (TWAS-LACREP), and (5) Sub-Saharan Africa (TWAS-SAREP).
