On October 19, 2023, at Thailand Science Park in Pathumthani, a significant milestone was reached in the advancement of rail technology in Thailand. The Rail and Modern Transport Research Center (RMT), under the leadership of Dr. Ekkarut Viyanit, Director of RMT, and Mr. Somrit Buddhanbut, Analyst at RMT, collaborated with the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), represented by Ms. Hataikarn Srisook, International Relations Officer. This collaboration led to a pivotal meeting with Mr. Shuichi TANIMOTO from Nippon Koei Co., Ltd., and Mr. Tsuyoshi TABUCHI from West Japan Railway Company, along with their researcher.
The primary objective of this gathering was to conduct a comprehensive survey aimed at uncovering opportunities for integrating Japanese rail technology and know-how into the thriving railway market of Thailand. Nipon Koei, with strong support from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, is taking the lead in driving this pivotal project.
During the meeting, RMT shared crucial data related to the project, including vital research information pertaining to railways and autonomous vehicles. Additionally, RMT presented a proposed guideline for future collaborative research initiatives with Japanese railway organizations.
