Researchers from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) unveiled the study on the “Feasibility Study on Applications of Green Hydrogen to Railways in Thailand” during an online seminar titled “Hydrogen Railway Dissemination Workshop” hosted by GIZ (the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) on March 7, 2024.
This collaborative initiative, spearheaded by the Rail and Modern Transports Research Group (RMT), National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) in partnership with National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), along with support from the German-Thai Railway Association Meeting (GTRA), funded by GIZ through the International Hydrogen Ramp-Up Programme (H2Uppp) , aims to produce a comprehensive white paper.
The white paper will address crucial aspects such as technology, safety, standardization, policy, regulations, and the economic and environmental implications of integrating green-hydrogen technology into Thailand’s rail transport sector. This project seeks to provide actionable insights into implementing sustainable transportation solutions in the country.
