Bangkok, Thailand – June 27, 2024 – A prominent regional science and technology leadership event, the 8th STS forum ASEAN-Japan Workshop, successfully concluded. The workshop, co-organized by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and the STS forum, with crucial support from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), brought together key players from ASEAN and Japan.

Held at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Hotel, the event served as a springboard for fostering collaboration in science, technology, and innovation (STI) between the two regions. Highlighting the event's significance, H.E. Supamas Isarabhakdi, in her opening remarks, emphasized the critical role of STI in navigating today's dynamic global landscape.

The workshop focused on three key themes:

  • Strategy on AI Application: This session delved into the ethical and sustainable development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a specific emphasis on equipping startups and businesses with the necessary skills for responsible AI implementation. This focus on responsible AI development positions the region for future success.
  • HRD on Green Talent for Industry and Research: Recognizing the growing importance of environmental sustainability, the workshop addressed the need to cultivate a new generation of professionals equipped with expertise in green technologies. This initiative directly supports industries in achieving carbon neutrality, reflecting a commitment to a greener future.
  • Nurturing Start-ups: Leveraging Japan's strength in technology development, the workshop aimed to promote and empower startups across ASEAN countries. This theme underscores the commitment to fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem in the region through the power of technology.

Established in 2004, the STS forum serves as a prestigious platform for global science and technology leaders to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities. By facilitating international cooperation, the forum empowers stakeholders to address societal issues through scientific advancements. The annual STS forum meeting in Kyoto, Japan, further solidifies its role as a central hub for dialogue and networking within the global STI community.
