On December 13, 2024, National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA)

National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), led by Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, Executive Assistant Director, and Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Director of the Energy Innovation Research Group, welcomed the Executive Board and staff from the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) during their visit to the Energy Innovation Research Group’s laboratory on the 6th floor of the Innovation Cluster 2 Building (INC2) at the Thailand Science Park.

A delegation from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by Eng. Anwar Bin Abed Al-Azwari, Director of the Aquaculture Production Department, and Dr. Abdullah Nasser A. Aljurayyan, Head of the Biotechnology Sector of the National Livestock & Fisheries Development Program (NLFDP), visited the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).

The 9th Governing Board meeting of the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) took place in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 11, 2024. Co-hosted by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as ANSO Secretariat, the meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, President of NSTDA and the current President of ANSO.

The Scientific Seminar brought together leading experts to discuss the transformative role of technology in addressing global sustainability challenges. Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit, the event was jointly organized by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO).

On December 5, 2024, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the EU through E-READI, hosted the ASEAN Side Event at the International Conference on Research Infrastructures (ICRI2024) in Brisbane, Australia. The event, titled “Exploring New Opportunities for Research Infrastructure Collaboration,” aimed to highlight the potential of ASEAN’s research infrastructure and foster international collaboration.

Brisbane, Australia – December 2-6, 2024 – Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Executive Director of the National Nanotechnology Center and Chair of the ASEAN Regional Research Infrastructure Strategy (ASEAN RRI), represented the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) at the International Conference on Research Infrastructure 2024 (ICRI2024). Along with delegates from ASEAN member states including Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the ASEAN Secretariat, Dr. Uracha participated in this pivotal event to strengthen ASEAN's presence in the global research infrastructure community.

From November 26 to 29, 2024, two representatives from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), led by Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Executive Director of the Nanotechnology Center and overseeing of NSTDA’s international collaborations, participated in a study visit on Australia's research infrastructure. The visit, hosted by Australia’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources, aimed to foster collaboration between Australia and Southeast Asian (SEA) countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

On December 6, 2024, Prof. Dr. Siwaporn Meejoo Smith, Acting Deputy Executive Director of Research and Development (Nanostructure and Systems), extended a warm welcome to Distinguished Prof. Alaina Ammit, Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), along with a group of UTS undergraduate students, during their visit to the state-of-the-art R&D facilities at NANOTEC, Thailand Science Park, Pathumthani.

November 25-29, 2024

National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), continued its ICT Project for Lifelong Learning for Marginal Communities, led by Dr. Aswin Hongsingthong, a researcher from the Solar Photovoltaic Research Team, accompanied by a team of expert engineers. The team visited seven locations within Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Royal Initiative Project areas in Tak Province. The mission included conducting measurements and collecting data as part of the scheduled maintenance program for solar power generation systems and telemetry equipment. The team provide on-the-job training for local staff focusing on system operations and maintenance demonstrations. This hands-on training ensures that the system operate safely and efficiently, supporting essential services such as education, public health, and overall quality of life in remote communities.

On December 3, 2024 The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency, has partnered with BIOTEC-NSTDA, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), the National Biopharmaceutical Facility (NBF), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) to implement the Biologics and Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing in Thailand project. Funded by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), this collaboration is set to run for 3 years.

On November 18-19, 2024, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), in collaboration with the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI), successfully organized the 3rd ASEAN Regional Research Infrastructure (RRI) Taskforce Workshop: Refining Strategy. The event took place at Swissotel Bangkok and brought together key stakeholders from across the ASEAN region.

On November 27, 2024, ENTEC welcomed Mr. Keiichi Yoshimura, Senior Vice President, and delegates from MITSUI & CO., (THAILAND) LTD. to explore and evaluate the Premium Bio Diesel (H-FAME) production system and observe its comprehensive real-world performance testing in ENTEC’s pickup trucks. The delegation also engaged in a productive discussion with Dr. Yuji Yoshimura, ENTEC’s Visiting Senior Researcher, regarding the potential for collaborative testing of Premium Bio Diesel (H-FAME) under the project “Demonstration of 100% High-Quality Biodiesel Production and Field Testing in Thailand” funded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan.

On November 26, 2024, at the Army Research and Development Office (ARDO) under the Royal Thai Army (RTA)

National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), led by Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Director of Energy Innovation Research Group, along with the Energy Storage Technology Research Team, visited the ARDO facilities. Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director of ENTEC, along with Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, Executive Assistant Director, and their research team welcomed senior executives and researchers from the Biological Resource Center (NBRC) of the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE), Japan, led by Dr. Hiroko Kawasaki, Senior Director of NBRC.

The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA hosted a delegation from Kyoto University and the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology, led by Dr. Keiichi Ishihara, Specially Appointed Professor from Kyoto University’s Institutional Advancement and Communications Division and advisor to the Faculty of Engineering at the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI), along with faculty members, to discuss collaboration on engineering and technology personnel development, with an emphasis on Energy Transition and Decarbonization Initiatives.

On November 20, 2024, Low Carbon Energy Research Group under National Energy Technology Center, NSTDA delivered 200 liters of Premium Bio Diesel (H-FAME), produced under the project “Demonstration for 100% Biodiesel Fuel Stable Supply and Field Utilization Test in Thailand” to HIDAKA YOOKOO ENTERPRISES CO., LTD. This Premium Bio Diesel (H-FAME) 100% will be tested with the company’s forklifts. The field utilization data from this testing will help build confidence in using Premium Bio Diesel (H-FAME) 100% as a carbon-neutral fuel, contributing to carbon emission reduction for the company and interested users, aligning with efforts to mitigate global warming.

On November 7, 2024, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), represented by Associate Professor Dr. Toemsak Srikhirin, Executive Director of the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), joined by MTEC researchers led by Dr. Nudjarin Ramungul, Research Specialist of Environment Research Group, Dr. Witchuda Daud, Director of Advanced Polymer Technology Research Group, Dr. Asira Fuongfuchat, Deputy Executive Director attended the Indo-Pacific Plastics Innovation Network (IPPIN) Demo Day – Thailand Chapter. The event, themed “Innovation sparks hope for a future without plastic waste in Thailand,” was hosted by the Australian Embassy in Thailand. Representatives from various sectors, including Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Thai Environment Institute (TEI), plastic manufacturing companies, startups, and governmental agencies responsible for plastic waste management policies, also participated in the event at The Peninsula Bangkok.

Congratulations to Dr. Amornrat Limmanee, Team Leader of the Solar Photovoltaic Research Team, Energy Innovation Research Group at the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA and the Solar Photovoltaic Research Team (SPVT) on receiving the prestigious Oral Presentation Award at the 35th International Photovoltaic Science and Engineering Conference (PVSEC-35). Dr. Amornrat was recognized for her transformative research titled “Degradation behavior of 11-years field aged photovoltaic modules in Thailand science park.” The award was presented at the PVSEC-35 conference held at Plaza Verde (Mt. Fuji) in Shizuoka, Japan, on November 15, 2024.

National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) and National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), NSTDA welcomed Dr. Bo Yu, Director of the CAS Key Laboratory of Microbial Physiological and Metabolic Engineering at the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), for a joint research project progress meeting at the Innovation Cluster 2 (INC2) Building, NSTDA. The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of a joint research project between ENTEC and CAS under the CAS-NSTDA collaboration framework, titled “High-Cost Efficiency Microbial Fuel Cell for Simultaneous Wastewater Treatment, Bioenergy Production and Metal Recovery using Robust Strains for Bioelectrocatalytic Process.”

National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) held its fourth Executive Board Meeting of 2024 on November 8, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. The meeting aimed to review ENTEC’s key accomplishments over the past two years (2023-2024) under the guidance of the current Executive Board. The ENTEC Executive Board is chaired by Professor Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, with Professor Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, President of NSTDA, serving as Vice Chairman. During this occasion, the Executive Board provided valuable recommendations for driving the energy research initiatives toward implementation, investments and creating economic, social, and environmental impacts in alignment with ENTEC’s core mission.

The delegations from the USDA, U.S. Embassy Bangkok, led by Ms. Kelly Stange, Agricultural Counselor for Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, visited National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), NSTDA for collaboration discussions in agriculture and tour facilities. The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Kobkul Laoteng, Acting Deputy Director (R&D), and Dr. Phairoj Khaosittiwong, Acting Deputy Director (Management).

On November 1, 2024, Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Executive Director of NANOTEC, NANOTEC executives and researchers, NSTDA., had the honor of welcoming a delegation from Cosmetic Valley, France, to NANOTEC, Thailand Science Park. The delegation was accompanied by representatives from the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) and the Thai Cosmetic Cluster (TCOS). The visiting delegation included Ms. Franckie BÉCHEREAU, Deputy CEO for Europe and International Affairs at Cosmetic Valley, Dr. Patcharaporn Wongsa, Program Director, Nutraceuticals and Cosmeceuticals, TCELS, and Ms. Lucksupa Prapawit, President of TCOS. The meeting was centered around exploring potential collaboration opportunities between the three organizations.

On November 7-8, 2024, the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA collaborated with The Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University, led by Dr. Nuwong Chollacoop, Director of Low Carbon Energy Research Group, along with the working team consisting of Dr. Peerawat Saisirirat, and Dr. Tawan Champeecharoensuk, organized the Workshop on Sustainable Transport Fuels (Land, Air and Marine) at Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology), Ookayama Campus, Japan. Moreover, the team visit Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC).

On October 29 – November 1, 2024, the Royal Cliff Grand Hotel, Pattaya, Chonburi Province

National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA led by Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director, Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Director of the Energy Innovation Research Group, Dr. Nuwong Chollacoop, Director of the Low Carbon Energy Research Group, and Dr. Jiravan Mongkoltanatas, ENTEC researcher, participated in the 10th IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (IEEE ISC2 2024) held at the Royal Cliff Grand Hotel in Pattaya, Chonburi Province.

Dr. Pongkarn Chakthranont, researcher from the Catalyst Research Team, NANOTEC, NSTDA has been awarded the L’Oréal Thailand “For Women in Science” fellowship in the field of Physical Sciences. She received a research grant of 250,000 baht, along with a certificate of honor, for her project titled “Electrochemical Reaction Acceleration for Energy and Environmental Sustainability.” This initiative aims to develop an electrochemical cell capable of simultaneously facilitating reactions that convert carbon dioxide from greenhouse gas emissions into valuable chemicals, thereby addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainability.

On October 28-30, 2024, the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA led by Dr. Kampanart Silva, a researcher with the Low Carbon Energy Research Group, Dr. Tawan Champeecharoensuk, and Mr. Khemrath Vithean, participated in the Urban-Act: Integrated Urban Climate Action for Low-carbon & Resilient Cities Workshop on the topic of “Hazard and Risk Assessment Workshop” at Ballroom 2, Royal Phuket City Hotel, Phuket.

On October 24, 2024, Dr. Wiyong Kangwansupamonkon, Deputy Executive Director for Research and Development (Nanoprocess Technology), represented NANOTEC, NSTDA to welcome Prof. Dr. Katharina Landfester, Director of the Physical Chemistry of Polymers at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, and Prof. Dr. med. Volker Mailänder, Professor from the Department of Dermatology at the University Medical Clinic of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. The meeting also included Dr. Udom Asawapirom, senior researcher, Dr. Doungporn Crespy, researcher from Advanced Nano Agriculture Research Team and Dr. Raweewan Thiramanas, researcher from Nanocosmeceuticals Research Team. The purpose of their visit was to discuss and explore potential research partnerships.

On October 21-23, 2024, the National Energy Technology Center, NSTDA, led by Dr. Nuwong Chollacoop, Director of Low Carbon Energy Research Group, Dr. Tawan Champeecharoensuk and Mr. Khemrath Vithean, participated in the International Conference on sustainable Energy 2024 (ICUE 2024) on “Energy Transition and Net-Zero Climate Future” at Long Beach Garden Hotel and Pavilions, Pattaya City.

On October 6, 2024, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), attended the opening of the 21st Science and Technology in Society Forum (STS Forum 2024) in Kyoto, Japan, under the theme “What do we need from S&T?”. This forum is recognized as the largest global platform for discussions on science and technology policy. During the opening ceremony, she delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the importance of preparing and developing a highly skilled workforce in artificial intelligence to support significant advancements in science and technology. She highlighted the need for STEM education, along with upskilling and reskilling initiatives to enable citizens to adapt to the rapid changes in today’s world. Additionally, she underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to address environmental issues and combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030.

Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Executive Director of National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), participated in the 86th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI-86). She also attended related meetings, including the Sub-Committee on Science and Technology Infrastructure and Resources Development (SCIRD) and the Board of Advisors to COSTI (BAC). The meeting was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), along with other executives and staff from the Ministry.

On October 2, 2024, Dr. Witchuda Daud, Director of the Advanced Polymer Technology Research Group, and Dr. Kittinan Annanon, Research Specialist in the Environmental Research Group at the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), NSTDA, were invited as speakers to attend the ASEAN Circular Economy Forum 2024. The event was organized by the ASEAN Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. In her lecture, Dr. Wichuda shared her experiences, insights, and perspectives on the potential of Thailand’s regional integration and cooperation on Circular Economy (CE) Initiatives, Circular Economy (CE) design solutions, and best practices for engaging with the industry/private sector under the central theme of “The Circular Economy in ASEAN – Harnessing the Potential of Regional Integration and Cooperation.” Meanwhile, Dr. Kittinan participated in the panel discussion on “Comprehensive Circularity for Electronics – Using the Full Range of Circular Strategies,” contributing knowledge and experiences and exchanging opinions on reducing the environmental impact of electronic devices, government participation in promoting product life extension and management, creating product safety, and social responsibility.

Dr. Nitsara Karoonuthaisiri, BIOTEC Acting Deputy Executive Director, NSTDA, represented Thailand at the 54th Meeting of the ASEAN Sub-Committee on Biotechnology (SCB-54) on October 7, 2024, in Singapore. She was assigned by Assistant Professor Dr. Chaowaree Adthalungrong, BIOTEC Executive Director, to attend the meeting.SCB-54 was held as part of the 86th ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI-86) from October 7 to 11, 2024. The SCB brings together biotechnology leaders from government agencies across the 10 ASEAN member states, with a focus on fostering regional collaboration.

On 25 September 2024, delegates from the Finland Embassy in Thailand, led by Mr. Kimmo Pekari, Special Advisor, along with Mr. Anssi Rantasalo and Mr. Hikki Keskitalo, co-founders of Enifer Company, Finland, visited the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). They met with Dr. Kobkul Laoteng, Acting Deputy Executive Director of BIOTEC, and researchers from the Biochemical Engineering and Systems Biology Research Group, Biorefinery and Bioproduct Technology Research Group (IBBG) and BIOTEC Bioprocessing Facility (BBF), to discuss potential collaboration in biorefinery technology, including strain engineering and bioprocessing technology, as well as translational research facility at EECi.

September 26, 2024 – The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) recently hosted a delegation of high-ranking Malaysian officials led by Prof. Dr. Azmawani Binti Abd Rahman, President and CEO of Putra Business School. The visit aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange on national-level organizational management and leadership, as part of the "Leadership Quest in a Global Immersion Experience" program organized by the Public Service Department and Putra Business School.

MTEC, NSTDA, in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), organized a seminar titled ‘Dialogue on Life Cycle Approach to Addressing Plastic Pollution.’ The seminar aimed to provide an overview of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), demonstrate the practical application of its principles and showcase best practices from stakeholders at various levels. The event also sought to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to implement effective plastic management strategies in alignment with future international agreements, particularly legally binding measures addressing plastic pollution, including marine pollution. Additionally, the seminar provided an opportunity for participants to share their views and contribute to policy-making efforts to tackle plastic pollution in Thailand.

Dr. Somsak Supasitmongkol, a researcher from ENTEC’s Clean Fuel Technology and Advanced Chemistry Research Team, shared his expertise and discussed his work on “Screening Undesirable Microorganisms Using Hypochlorous Disinfectant Produced by Electrolysis Technology” at the workshop titled “Prototype for Guiding Digital Technology Implementation in Healthcare Service Providers (Hospitals)” The workshop emphasized innovative approaches for managing confidential data using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, with a focus on energy security and safety in the healthcare sector.

National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), a member of National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) collaborates with the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) to host the orientation seminar for the project “Study for Establishing Baseline Data and Tracking Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions through Vehicle Energy Efficiency Measures.”

(September 17, 2024), at MTEC Building, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), through the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), and Nanjing Forestry University (NJFU), the People’s Republic of China, held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on research and development cooperation. This MOU focuses on the “Transfer of Innovative Bamboo-Based Construction Material Technology to Reduce Environmental Impact.” The signing was led by Associate Professor Toemsak Srikhirin, Executive Director of MTEC, and Professor Dr. Zhaoyang Xu, Dean of the College of Materials Science and Engineering, NJFU. The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Ma Minggeng, Counselor (Science and Technology) from the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, Dr. Pasupha Chinvarasopak, Minister-Counselor (Science and Technology) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, and Dr. Wannipa Koodsela, Assistant Deputy Director / Chinese Coordinator from Program Management Unit on Area Based Development (PMU-A). Also, attendees from both sides were Dr. Thipjak Na Lampang, Research Team Leader, Wood Engineering for Sustainability Research Team (WEST) at MTEC, Associate Professor Dr. Tao Ding, Deputy Director of Human Resources at NJFU, as well as the executive teams and researchers from both organizations. This collaboration aims to enhance sustainable agriculture and boost technological capacity in innovative materials. The primary goal is to transfer technology for using bamboo as an environmentally friendly alternative construction material between Thailand and China, contributing to the advancement of Thailand’s industrial sector.

Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, Assistant Executive Director of ENTEC, along with Dr. Chaiyuth SaeKung, Researcher of the Clean Fuel Technology and Advanced Chemistry Research Lab, ENTEC and members of the BIOTEC research team, welcomed the visiting delegation from Mitsui Chemicals Crop & Life Solutions, Inc. (MCCLS) and ICBiotech, Osaka University, Japan, and discussed potential research collaborations.

A high-level delegation from the Chinese Embassy, including Mr. Ma Minggeng, Counselor (Science and Technology), Mr. Wang Qiang, First Secretary, and Ms. Fu Shan, Third Secretary, recently visited BIOTEC to discuss ongoing and future collaborations. China is regarded as one of BIOTEC’s most significant partners across various scientific and technological domains.

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in partnership with the European Union (EU) through the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI), successfully hosted the second ASEAN Regional Research Infrastructure (RRI) Taskforce Workshop in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from August 15-16, 2024. Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), this workshop served as a crucial follow-up to the initial drafting session held in May 2024.

On August 20, 2024, during the Taiwan – Thailand Industrial Cooperation Summit (TTICoS) in Taiwan, BIOTEC, Taiwan’s Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI), and Quark Biosciences Inc. (QuarkBio) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on precision health solutions using microbial testing.

August 15, 2024 –Dr. Kallaya Sritunyalucksana-Dangtip is being recognized by the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of His Majesty the King. Held at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, the award ceremony was presided over by H.E. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. 

Bangkok, Thailand – August 6, 2024 – The National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and Kasetsart University announce the launch of the collaborative project “ShrimpGuard: Development of Phage-Associated Formulation to Combat Antimicrobial Resistant Vibrio spp. in Cultured Shrimp.” This initiative has been awarded THB 41,605,962 in funding by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada and UK’s Department of Health and Social Care. The project will run for 32 months, from April 2024 to December 2026.

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), has organized the Thailand Tech Show 2024: Science for Exponential Growth: Tech to Biz, a platform designed to bridge the gap between research and industry. This annual event, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, as a part of SCI POWER FOR FUTURE THAILAND from July 22-28 2024, aims to empower businesses by providing access to cutting-edge research, technologies, and innovations.  

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) kicked off the "Thailand Tech Show 2024: Science for Exponential Growth: Tech to Biz" on July 22nd, highlighting the nation's technological advancements. The event, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, showcased the latest innovations and their potential impact on business and society.

On 5 July 2024 Ms. Jennifer Lappin, Director of New Technologies and Production Methods Division, U.S. Department of Agriculture and a representative of US Embassy Bangkok visited National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). They were greeted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Chaowaree Adthalungrong, Executive Director of BIOTEC, Dr. Sithichoke Tangphatsornruang, Acting Deputy Executive Director (R&D) of BIOTEC and Dr. Nitsara Karoonuthaisiri, Acting Deputy Executive Director of BIOTEC (R&D Support). The delegates discussed collaboration and the latest developments in gene editing in plants.

Dr. Parichart Burns, Senior Researcher, and Dr. Yeetoh Dabbhadatta, Researcher, from the Innovative Herbal Plant Factory Research Team, Integrative Crop Biotechnology and Management Research Group at BIOTEC, have been awarded the prestigious Borlaug Fellowship by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Bangkok, Thailand – June 27, 2024 – A prominent regional science and technology leadership event, the 8th STS forum ASEAN-Japan Workshop, successfully concluded. The workshop, co-organized by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and the STS forum, with crucial support from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), brought together key players from ASEAN and Japan.

On June 17^th 2024, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) had the honor of hosting a delegation from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), led by Mrs. Kathrin Meyer, Head of Division for Cooperation with Asia and Oceania, alongside tw o representatives from the German Embassy in Thailand.

On June 14, 2024, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) had the pleasure of welcoming three executives from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) on their visit to Thailand. The delegation had the opportunity to exchange information about their respective institutions and explore potential avenues for collaboration.

Delegation of Taiwan Association for Lactic Acid Bacteria (TALAB) and Taiwan’s Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI), led by Prof. Guo-Jane Tsai, Department of Food Science, National Taiwan Ocean University, TALAB Chairman and Dr. Hing-Yuen Chan, Senior Researcher, Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI) visited National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), NSTDA. They met and discussed with Asst. Prof. Chaowaree Adthalungrong, Executive Director of BIOTEC and team on the use of probiotic microorganisms in food and health supplements and BIOTEC’s contribution to safety assessment for probiotics for FDA approval.

National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with the European Union (EU) through the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI), hosted the ASEAN Regional Research Infrastructure (RRI) Strategy Drafting Workshop from May 28-29, 2024, in Ayutthaya, Thailand supported by Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).

6-17 May 2024 – Under the e-ASIA Joint Research Program, the project titled “Developing integrated agriculture wastes – carbon capture model for mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in rice production in Asia (IAW-CCM Asia)” led by Dr. Jonaliza Lanceras Siangliw, Senior Researcher from the Innovative Plant Biotechnology and Precision Agriculture Research Team, received financial support from Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B)-Global Partnership Scheme.

21/05/2024, Bangkok – A high-level meeting to explore diverse bioeconomy opportunities and collaboration mechanisms in Southeast Asia as part of the region’s move toward an agrifood system transformation, opened today in the Thai capital, Bangkok. This hybrid event, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the support of Thailand’s National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), NSTDA.

National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Green Standard (GSD) together with Asia Carbon Institute (ACI), a carbon standards organization from Singapore. Prepare to cooperate and create a neutral carbon standard for ASEAN Along with carbon reduction technology and a common process for calculating ASEAN's carbon neutrality with the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO is ready to provide support. Under the honorary advisor, Mr. Wichai Thongtang, who has experience in creating collaboration and building on the success of many organizations to achieve the goals of the ASEAN region.

The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) under NSTDA secured three prestigious awards at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, held from April 17-21, 2024, under the support of the National Research Council of Thailand, Harn Engineering Solutions Pcl., and the Thai Biomedical Engineering Association. This year's event showcased over 1,000 innovations from 40 countries, with Thailand contributing a strong showing of 94 innovations from 37 organizations.

On March 29, 2024, the meeting room CO-113 at the Central Office Building, Thailand Science Park in Pathum Thani Province, served as the venue for an enlightening seminar focused on “The role and duty of NSTDA to support the country’s hydrogen push” within the broader theme of Low Carbon Hydrogen: Policy and Technology Advances.

As part of NAC2024, NSTDA - Forschungszentrum Jülich 10^th Anniversary Conference and Exhibition took place on 28 – 30 March 2024 at the Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani. On 29 March 2024, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over an opening ceremony of the 19^th NSTDA Annual Conference (NAC2024).

As part of NSTDA Annual Conference 2024, NSTDA in collaboration with Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) held a seminar of the success of research collaborations between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) took place on 28 March 2024 at Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani. 

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) hosted “NSTDA Annual Conference” (NAC2024), which took place on 28 - 30 March 2024 at the Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani. On 29 March 2024, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over an opening ceremony of the 19^th NSTDA Annual Conference. NAC2024 was held under the theme "Co-Creating R&D Values to Foster Thai Economic and Social Transformation with BCG Implementation". The activities include academic seminars, exhibitions, conferences, a tour to research facilities, and also science activities for youth.

On March 21, Mr. Permsuk Saccato, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), presided over the opening ceremony of the "Diplomatic Role for International Cooperation in Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation 2024" under the theme "Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future" at the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) joined the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) in hosting the 2024 ATM CONNECT: Green Talent Development to Enhance ASEAN Economic Co-Creation and Sustainable Society through STI-Based Solutions. The event, which took place from February 27 to March 1, 2024, aimed to promote the ASEAN Talent Mobility (ATM) platform and facilitate the development of comprehensive work plans to address critical issues and foster an ASEAN research community.

(Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani, 22 February 2024) – The National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), a flagship institute under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), invited the public and media to a unique glimpse into the Thailand Bioresource Research Center (TBRC). TBRC is a cutting-edge facility that stands as one of the largest microbial and biomaterial repositories in the ASEAN region, with a collection nearing 100,000 strains. It serves as a cornerstone for fundamental biotechnological research, facilitating the utilization of microorganisms in both academic and industrial settings, and advancing the BCG bio-based economy.

Networking event: infectious diseases relevant to Southeast Asia was held between 20-22 February 2024 at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok. The event - which was co-hosted by NSTDA in cooperation with Medical Research Council (MRC), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) from 20th - 22nd February 2024 at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao in Bangkok.

The Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre was abuzz with celebration on 2 February 2024 as the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) announced the recipients of the prestigious 2024 NRCT Awards. Thailand's agricultural industry is facing significant challenges due to the prolonged use of hazardous pesticides. This has led to drug resistance in pests, toxic residues in crops, harm to humans and animals, damage to ecosystems, and an overall negative impact on the environment. To address this issue, researchers at BIOTEC-NSTDA are developing agricultural bio-products. These bio-products aim to provide an alternative to harmful pesticides and promote sustainable farming practices.

The Nano Agricultural Chemistry and Processing Research Team at NANOTEC-NSTDA has successfully developed a groundwater filtration system by utilizing nanomaterial technology. This system combines graphene oxide and nanoclay to create a nano- or micro-scale porous membrane that effectively removes various contaminants from groundwater. The membrane is designed to be regenerated and rinsed for reuse in filtration systems, making it an efficient and cost-effective solution for communities, schools, villages, and coastal areas facing water quality issues. This clean water management system aims to improve the quality of life for the Thai population and aligns with the BCG economy model.

[10 January 2024, Beijing] – Dr. Kuakoon Piyachomkwan, Deputy Executive Director at BIOTEC, NSTDA., along with representative from the Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company Limited and Siam Modified Starch were invited to participate in the sixth Lancang-Mekong Business Forum (LMBF) on “Promoting Agribusiness and Investment in the Processed Food Sector,” held on January 10-11, 2024, in Beijing, P. R. China. The event was organized by the Mekong Institute (MI). The group is joined by Dr. Kanchana Saengchan, a researcher from BIOTEC’s Waste Utilization and Management Research Team, and Dr. Sittichoke Wanlapatit, a researcher from BIOTEC’s Cassava and Starch Technology Research Team also joined the forum.

The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) operates its mission through a direction that is consistent and linked to the strategic plan of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA)  No. 7 (The Fiscal Year 2022-2027), which is also linked to the 20-year National  Strategy Plan (2018-2037) and master plans at various levels, such as the strategy to drive national development with a bio-economic model, circular economy, and green economy (Bio-Circular-Green Economy: BCG Model) and the 20-year research and innovation strategy (2017-2036). MTEC places importance on taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the high technology infrastructure, especially “Eastern Special Economic Corridor of Innovation: The Innovation Infrastructure to Support Thailand 4.0” to create works that meet the needs of various sectors and apply research findings for  practical use in resolving problems or developing business, thus, creating  a significant positive impact on the economy and society.

On November 11, 2023, Mr. Stefan Karsten Krohn, Honorary Consul in Hamburg, together with Lady Barbara Riepl, former Honorary Consul in Munich, Federal Republic of Germany, traveled to Thailand and host a dinner in celebration of the 20^th  anniversary of the DESY Summer Student Program; the program is under the royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the purpose of supporting opportunity to conduct research in Hamburg and Zeuthen, Germany for the bachelor's and master's level of Thai youth. The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khunying Sumonta Promboon, member of NSTDA Governing Board, Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, President of NSTDA, Dr. Chadamas Thuvasethakul, The Committee member and deputy secretary-general of The Information Technology Foundation under the initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Ms. Ruetai Chongsrid, The Committee member and secretary of the DESY Summer Student Program and a group of alumni from the DESY Summer Student Program from the 1st to the 20th generation as welcome people.
