On 3 August 2023, NSTDA and the Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) came together for an MOU signing ceremony, with a goal of developing broadcasting and telecommunication innovation based on inclusive design and assistive technology.
Recognizing the importance of inclusive design and assistive technology, the collaboration aims to address the needs of all consumers, particularly the disabled, elderly, and underprivileged communities. By integrating these technologies, the broadcasting and telecommunication industry can foster public engagement, reduce social inequality, and facilitate social mobility.
NBTC Chairman Clinical Prof. Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck stated that the partnership formed under this MOU would lead to the creation of innovative solutions that promote equal access to knowledge and technology, opening up new opportunities for all.
NSTDA President Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong highlighted the success of past collaborations between NBTC and NSTDA. Thanks to the generous support from NBTC, Thailand's Telecommunication Relay Services (TTRS) was established, allowing people with hearing or speech impairment to access telecommunication services and communicate with others in the society. NBTC also provided a research grant to NSTDA for the development of a closed caption system, enabling seniors and individuals with reduced hearing to access news, information and contents of various events such as conferences and seminars.
This year, NBTC and NSTDA will co-host the 16th International Convention on Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology (i-CREATe 2023). This event, scheduled to take place at Thailand Science Park Convention Center from 8-11 August 2023, is expected to draw more than 300 participants from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, the UK, Australia and Thailand. The comprehensive conference program will feature keynote lectures, workshops, research presentations, innovation contests, and site visits. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who has been a staunch advocate of i-CREATe will graciously preside over the opening ceremony scheduled for 10 August 2023.
NBTC Commissioner Mr. Torpong Selanon revealed that NBTC will organize an exhibition and deliver a talk on digital inclusion at i-CREATe 2023. Additionally, plans are in place for Thailand to host the Thailand Digital Accessibility Content Conference in the coming year.
