On 13 November 2023, an MOU signing ceremony took place between NSTDA and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). Representing each party at the event were Dr. Janekrishna Kanatharana, Executive Vice President of NSTDA, and Mr. Takashi Toyoda, Thailand Country Head of SMBC. Guests of honor included Mr. Kentaro Nagai, First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand and Asst. Prof. Dr. Weerachai Arjharn, Vice President of NSTDA.
NSTDA is recognized as the main contributor to the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) model, the National AI Masterplan, and the the Eastern Economic Corridor. Its research spans five core technologies: biotechnology, digital technology, materials technology, nanotechnology and energy technology. These technologies are applied to provide innovative solutions to both industry and the public. NSTDA’s mission extends to human resource development and infrastructure development, strengthening the country's technology and innovation capacity. Recognizing the importance of collaboration, NSTDA actively seeks to form partnerships that offer insights into industry and community needs, foster connections, and provide support mechanisms, such as business advice, credit support, and investment.

Under this MOU, SMBC will introduce its clients considering business expansion in Thailand to NSTDA. SMBC will support industry-academia partnerships, R&D initiatives, recruitment, and human resource development and work with NSTDA to provide them with access to relevant information.
