The 9th Governing Board meeting of the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) took place in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 11, 2024. Co-hosted by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as ANSO Secretariat, the meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, President of NSTDA and the current President of ANSO.
Established in 2018 by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), ANSO is an international scientific organization aligned with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). NSTDA became an ANSO member in 2019, with its Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, joining the ANSO Governing Board in 2024-2026. As ANSO President, Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong presided over the meeting, which included the participation of Prof. Hongping He, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Governing Board members from Mongolia, Türkiye, Serbia, Senegal, and Brazil.
During the meeting, Prof. Liu Weidong, Executive Director of the ANSO Secretariat, presented the 2024 ANSO Progress Report. The Governing Board members reviewed membership applications and selected nine new organizations for consideration by the ANSO General Assembly. They also assessed proposed amendments to ANSO’s vision, mission, and statutes, endorsing draft regulations for logo usage to safeguard the organization's intellectual property.
Discussions further addressed ANSO’s ongoing and planned activities, as well as strategies to enhance collaboration among member organizations. The meeting set the stage for the 4th General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Beijing next year, offering clear direction and momentum for future initiatives.
