The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in partnership with the European Union (EU) through the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI), successfully hosted the second ASEAN Regional Research Infrastructure (RRI) Taskforce Workshop in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from August 15-16, 2024. Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), this workshop served as a crucial follow-up to the initial drafting session held in May 2024.
The primary objective of this gathering was to consolidate the draft strategy by reaching a consensus on key themes proposed by the RRI task force members. These themes encompass critical areas such as governance and financial management, the role of research infrastructures in technology transfer and industrial collaboration, fostering intra-ASEAN and bio-regional cooperation, and developing a robust talent pool and capacity-building framework.
The outcome of this workshop will be a refined draft strategy that will be presented for further discussion at the ASEAN level. By aligning efforts and establishing a shared vision, ASEAN member states aim to strengthen regional research capabilities, promote knowledge exchange, and drive innovation to address pressing global challenges.
