NSTDA joined hands with partners to establish the "Thailand CCUS Alliance (TCCA)," aiming to promote Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies and industries in the country. This initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support Thailand's carbon neutrality goals.
TCCA will serve as a central hub for integrating knowledge, technology, and collaboration among the public sector, private sector, academic institutions, and civil society. Its focus will be on developing infrastructure and policies that facilitate the use of CCUS technology.
This network will contribute to reducing investment costs, shortening operational timelines, minimizing research redundancies, and enhancing access to international funding. Furthermore, it will bolster the competitiveness of Thailand's industrial sector on a global scale, thereby fostering the nation's future economic growth.
TCCA has received research funding from the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B), with a three-year operational plan (2024-2026). The first year saw the formal establishment of the network, the second year will emphasize the creation of operational mechanisms, and the third year will focus on developing national-level projects leading to CCUS pilot projects in Thailand.
The adoption of CCUS technology will expedite Thailand's progress towards achieving its greenhouse gas reduction and carbon neutrality targets. This, however, necessitates collaboration from all sectors and the development of appropriate support mechanisms.
The Thailand CCUS Alliance (TCCA) comprises key organizations from various sectors, including the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research, and Innovation (PMU-B), and the Department of Climate Change and Environment (CCE). It also includes industry leaders such as the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), WHA Corporation Public Company Limited, and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP). Additionally, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Chiang Mai University play vital roles in supporting the network's mission.
