Pathumma LLM is an advanced AI technology designed to understand Thai linguistic and cultural contexts. Developed by Dr. Sarawut Khongyang and his team at the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), under NSTDA, this innovation marks a significant milestone in Thailand’s AI development. Pathumma LLM features three core capabilities: Text LLM for Thai language processing, Vision LLM for image analysis, and Audio LLM for Thai speech recognition and response. Developed as an open-source technology, it fosters collaborative learning and innovation within Thailand’s AI ecosystem.
Pathumma LLM’s key features include:
- Text LLM: Processes Thai text, understands queries, and generates responses.
- Audio LLM: Converts speech to text and provides intelligent voice-based responses.
- Vision LLM: Analyzes images and extracts relevant information.
These capabilities enable Pathumma LLM to support various applications across sectors, including government and private-sector chatbots, speech-to-text transcription for meetings, and image captioning for research. Notably, the Thai Parliament has adopted Pathumma LLM to enhance public services, such as summarizing parliamentary meetings and legislative drafts.
Beyond government applications, Pathumma LLM also benefits the general public by delivering AI-driven services that accurately process Thai language and context. It plays a crucial role in applications requiring high-security standards, such as banking and healthcare, ensuring reliable and secure AI assistance.
Looking ahead, the research team plans to develop a larger-scale Foundation Model by 2025, enhancing Pathumma LLM’s ability to handle extensive datasets and improve performance for both government and private-sector applications. Additionally, ongoing research aims to transform Pathumma LLM into an Agentic AI, an intelligent assistant capable of independent decision-making and analysis, optimizing services and operational efficiency.

NSTDA invites the public and industry stakeholders to experience Pathumma LLM firsthand at NAC2025, scheduled for March 26-28, 2025. A special seminar, "The Potential of Thai LLM and Challenges in Digital Infrastructure," will be held on March 28 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Room SD-601, Building 12 (Saranwit), Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani.
