On February 21, 2025, H.E. Mr. Patrick Hemmer, Ambassador of Luxembourg to Thailand, presided over the ceremony for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)on research and development collaboration in Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications, and Information Technologies. The event marked a partnership between the University of Luxembourg and the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), part of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).

The ceremony took place at the Bussakorn Room, NECTEC Building, Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani Province. Professor Marie-Hélène Jobin, Vice Rector for Partnerships and International Relations at the University of Luxembourg, and Dr. Chai Wutiwiwatchai, Executive Director of NECTEC, participated in the ceremony. Witnesses included Professor Pascal Bouvry, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) and Dr. Piyawut Srichaikul, Deputy Executive Director of NECTEC.

This MOU builds upon a collaboration that began in 2018 in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Cloud Computing. The new agreement broadens the scope to include Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, and Information Technologies. The expanded partnership aims to foster joint research efforts, knowledge exchange, personnel development, and advanced technology training. The ultimate goal is to promote cutting-edge technology applications and long-term collaborative research while strengthening bilateral relations.

The event also featured presentations on past achievements, outcomes from practical workshops, and future directions for upcoming projects in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, HPC, and Security. The event also included an introduction to European funding opportunities that can be jointly applied for (delivered by Dr. K.R.M.H. Tatas H.P. Brotosudarmo, EURAXESS Worldwide Representative for ASEAN), as well as discussions aimed at developing strategies for collaboration.

This ceremony and workshop mark a significant milestone in advancing the partnership between the University of Luxembourg and NECTEC. It underscores their commitment to expanding research and development efforts that will contribute to global scientific and technological progress.
