Women in Science – online workshop organized by the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO)
In the unprecedented global crisis outset in 2020, women scientists appeared to be more vulnerable than men. Recent research has shown a dramatic decline in the number of publications by women scientists as the result of bearing a greater proportion of responsibilities in taking care of childcare and household during the COVID-19 pandemic. Emerging evidence suggests that the disruptions caused by the pandemic endanger the engagement of women in science and may even roll back some of the endeavour and achievements made by women to date.
Based on the above background, evidence relating to the disadvantageous circumstances in which women scientists work, the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), Chinese Academy of Sciences with the support of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) have decided to jointly host an international workshop titled “Women in Science –Towards a Diversity of Research and Researcher”, to highlight some of the outstanding contributions of women scientists in STEMM and SSH, raise awareness of the career challenges of women scientists, and encourage the younger generation to join in to scientific researching the future.
The workshop will focus on the following issues facing women scientists:
1. Policies developed in order to rectify gender imbalance in research and organizational structure;
2. Actual research conducted by women scientists in STEMM and SSH fields alike.
