Dr. Tong jai Chookajorn and Dr. Chakkrist Phongphisutthinan, researchers from Materials Reliability Research Unit,  won the Outstanding Presentation Awards at the 4th WMRIF Workshop for Young Materials Scientists, held during September 8-10, 2014. The event was hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Boulder Colorado, USA.

It is the first time since the first workshop in 2008 that more than one winner are from the same institute. The prize includes an all expense paid trip for up to 2 weeks at the WMRIF member institute of each winner’s choice.

Dr. Chookajorn, whose research title is “ Getting Beyond Conventional Materials Data and Modeling: A Perspective from Nanoscale and Non-Equilibrium Systems”, and Dr. Phongphisutthinan,  whose research title is “Evolution of Fe-intermetallic Compounds in the Semi-solid State of Al-Mg-Si-Fe Alloys”, are two of the four runners-up from LANL (USA) and BAM (Germany). The Best Presentation Award went to Dr. George F.A. Dibb from the National Physical Laboratory, UK.

The workshop is initiated by the World Materials Research Institutes Forum (WMRIF) which comprises of 48 leading materials science institutes around the world. The first three workshops were successfully held at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Germany, and MTEC, Thailand respectively. This year’s workshop was attended by young scientists and senior members who serve as technical committee from member institutes worldwide.
