Vet Products Group invests over 40 million baht to set up R & D Center at Thailand Science Park to cooperate with NSTDA in expectations of having further interesting research and increasing market sharing of the animal health business by 15%.
On February 1st, Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul, President of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), along with Dr.Janekrishna Kanatharana, Director of the Thailand Science Park (TSP) and Vice President, NSTDA and executives from Vet Products Group company attended the opening ceremony of Vet Products Research and Innovation Center Co.Ltd., and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with NSTDA and NANOTEC at the Thailand Science Park in Pathum Thani in part of animal health and pharmaceuticals research and development and working more on Nano Technology, especially for “Nano Delivery System” in order to use this technology in antibiotics in order to reduce resistance in human with an expectation of sharing animal pharmaceutical of 15% in first year.
Dr. Tanin Sheewapalaboon (D.V.M.), Managing Director of Vet Products Group said the company is interesting in the issue of antibiotic resistance in human, which could be the result from using antibiotic in animal production business. Therefore, the company makes the decision to have cooperative research with National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) of NSTDA by using “Nano Delivery System” to study antibiotic products of the company. We have the targets of products development, increasing absorption in animal and reducing medication. This research will be very interesting, especially in term of reducing antibiotic resistance in human. With that, the company made the decision to invest over 40 million baht to set up R&D center in the name of “Vet Products Research and Innovation Center (VRI)” at Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani. Vet Products Group has a plan to set up VRI at Thailand Science Park by 3 reasons. First of all, he wants to have research team of the company working closely with NSTDA experts that they are professional in many scientific areas. Secondly, Thailand Science Park has the building called Innovation Cluster II (INC 2), which is the facility that was designed for the purpose of research, particularly. This building has perfect infrastructure with excellent system and management that is convenient for all kinds of research, and the company could have the benefit of these in term of reducing cost of investment. Thirdly, we have 70 companies as our good friends in the area of this facility, which we could work together to create many interesting projects in the future.
In the future, VRI has the plan to work on R&D with National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) of NSTDA to develop product as an alternatives to replace antibiotics in animal feed, which could reduce antibiotics resistance problem in human. Furthermore, VRI is also working with government institutes and universities to support research and technology with an expectation to implement in commercial scale. By research and development and cooperatives projects with leading institutes, VRI has the target of pharmaceutical and animal health business growth at 15% from market sharing of 33,000 million baht in both Thailand and other countries, Dr. Tanin said.
Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul, President of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) said that NSTDA emphasizes on research & development and innovation to offer the benefits to private sectors social and people, and goes further on implication for commercial scale in industries. In addition, these endeavors could support companies to conduct research, and may advise in the areas of analysis, testing, and others that ready to service. Moreover, Thailand Science Park can also serves and support private sectors to compete with others and follow the trends that changing all the times including assist system of innovation for Thailand, especially for the connections among academics, research and industry part, even between industrial parts. All these supports would make infrastructure of the country more prepared and less weak points from now on.
The cooperation with Vet Products Group is a good opportunity of NSTDA to join research & development, analysis & test and experts to promote and to continue on technology in the areas of agriculture, livestock production, animal pharmaceutical, additive, animal hospital and others that would be related to have more efficient and benefits. This cooperation would be a good chance for sharing experiences and technical knowledges, which is one of the target on “Food Cluster” that will bring us to creativity and beneficial research that practical in industry and consumers, and it is the force that drive economy of country in to “Thailand 4.0” and level up the capacity of Thailand to compete with other countries that could lead people to have more incomes, Dr. Narong said.
