On 6 December 2018, MTEC-NSTDA and the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) held a press conference announcing the launch of on-road test of B10 biodiesel in government cars. The test is part of the collaborative project to promote the use of biodiesel in Thailand. This collaborative project is funded by the Energy Conservation Fund in support of the Alternative Energy Development Plan.
Developed under Thailand-Japan collaborative project, H-FAME technology is an innovative technology that improves the quality of B100 biodiesel and therefore enables the production of biodiesel with higher blending ratio. H-FAME project was generously funded by the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) Program from 2010-2015, and carried out by a consortium of Thai and Japanese organizations such as Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Waseda University, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), MTEC, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB).
The current MTEC-DEDE collaboration aims to increase the use of biodiesel in Thailand by enabling the production of B10 biodiesel in country and performing the on-road test of B10 to boost consumers’ confidence. H-FAME technology has already been transferred to Global Green Chemicals PCL (GGC) and Bangchak Biofuel Company Limited (BBF). The on-road test launched at this press conference will be carried out in government vehicles from four partner organizations, namely the Royal Thai Naval Dockyard, Kasetsart University, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi and NSTDA. A total of 80 cars of various types and usages will be used in this project and data such as fuel consumption and consumer’s experience will be collected for analysis of long-term B10 development plan.
