MTEC-NSTDA and Kasetsart University entered an MOU to collaborate on the on-road test of B10 biodiesel. The MOU was signed by Dr. Julathep Kajornchaiyakul, MTEC Executive Director and Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, Acting President of Kasetsart University on 12 February 2019. This test is part of the collaborative project to promote the use of biodiesel in Thailand, executed by MTEC-NSTDA.
B10 is a biodiesel with higher blending ratio, enabled by H-FAME technology which enhances the quality of B100 biodiesel. H-FAME technology was developed by a consortium of Thai and Japanese organizations such as Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Waseda University, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), MTEC, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). The Thailand-Japan collaborative project was financed by the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) Program from 2010-2015.
Production of B10 biodiesel with H-FAME technology has been carried out in the pilot-scale for the on-road test with funding provided by the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE). More than 10 cars from Kasetsart University will participate in this test.
Biodiesel is not only a sustainable alternative to diesel, but also produces less emissions, including fine particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres, known as PM2.5. As concentrations of PM2.5 have exceeded the safe level in Bangkok during the past weeks, biodiesel is a preferred choice to help mitigate air pollution.
