NSTDA and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) showcased its electric vehicle (EV) prototype at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2019. This EV prototype is the result of Phase II of the NSTDA-EGAT joint project to transform a used car with an internal combustion engine into an EV.
The car used in Phase II of this project was a 1200cc Nissan Almera. The modified EV has the maximum power output of 61.86 kilowatts and the maximum speed of 160 km/hr. It takes 12-15 hours for a normal charge that will provide enough power for a trip of 150-200 km at the average speed of 90 km/hr. The modification to EV was done using an EV conversion kit developed by NECTEC-NSTDA. The EV conversion kit, now in its prototype stage, is designed to make the modification simple and keep the cost of modification at 200,000 baht/car, excluding the battery cost. This modified car is much cheaper than a new imported EV which is priced around 3-4 million baht.
In addition to the EV prototype, a 32A EV charging station developed by NECTEC-NSTDA is also on display. This charging station takes 4 hours to charge an empty 30 kW battery and meets the requirements of IEC61851 safety standards for EV charging stations.
