NSTDA welcomed four distinguished experts to its campus to share their experience and wisdom in the Presidents’ Forum: Challenges and Chances of R&D Management in the 21st Century, held on 25 March 2019. Four prestigious keynote speakers drawn from leading academic and research institutes in Asia are:
- Prof. James C. Liao, President of Academia Sinica, Taiwan;
- Prof. Yeong-Her Wang, President of National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs), Taiwan;
- Dr. Raj Thampuran, Managing Director of Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore; and
- Dr. Eden Y Woon, President of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.
As the world are increasingly faced with challenges, including energy security, food scarcity, climate change and aging population, the fast-paced technological advancement can offer boundless solutions to many of these problems. It is therefore imperative that R&D is properly managed in order to deliver optimal solutions in a timely manner. This Presidents’ Forum was therefore conceived so that NSTDA can learn from the experience and success of exceptional academic and research organizations; as well as to explore and strengthen collaboration between Thai academic and research agencies with these esteemed organizations.
In addition to NSTDA executives, the forum also welcomed the attendance of Secretary General of the National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office, President of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and Vice Rector of Thammasat University.
Further to the Presidents’ Forum, Prof. James C. Liao delivered a keynote lecture on Synthetic Biology for Sustainability and Healthcare in NAC2019 Conference: Technology and Innovation Drives the Bio-industry toward to Thailand 4.0, and Prof. Yeong-Her Wang led his NARLabs delegation to participate in several functions held during NAC2019 including an MOU signing with NSTDA and a NSTDA-NARLabs Joint Workshop.
