The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), in collaboration with EUAXESS ASEAN, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and NSTDA, organized the Falling Walls Lab Thailand 2019, a contest which provides a great opportunity to Thai students, researchers and entrepreneurs to present their innovative ideas, research projects and social initiatives and learn how to communicate effectively. The winner will compete in the global Lab Finale and attend the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin in November 2019, as well as receive the EURAXESS prize to visit a research lab or university of his or her choice in Europe.
Twenty-three finalists of Falling Walls Lab Thailand 2019 gathered on 8 September 2019 at Compass SkyView Hotel Bangkok for the final competition, pitching their ideas to the jury panel and live audience. After the presentations, the winners were announced as follows:
- Winner: Dr. Udom Sae-Ueng, Researcher from BIOTEC for his innovation “Breaking the Wall of Bacterial Wilt Disease”
- Runner-ups: Dr. Pakapreud Khumwan, Researcher from BIOTEC for his innovation “Breaking the Wall of Multidrug- Resistant TB Diagnosis” and Ms. Naricha Pupinyo, Ph.D. Student from Chulalongkorn University for her idea “Breaking the Wall of Complex Blood Typing Technique”
- Winner of the Popular Vote: Ms. Napat Tandikul, Former Research Associate of EpiBone Inc. NY, USA for her presentation “Breaking the Wall of Bone Reconstruction”
