NSTDA, NECTEC, the National Science Museum and the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King led Thai students to showcase their science projects at the 2019 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held during 12-17 May 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Thai students took home the following awards:


1. Third Award in Physical Energy Category:Development of Novel Wind Turbines Hybridized between Permanent Magnet Disks and Additional Motor/Generator for Extending Operating Range and Enhancing Conversion Efficiency”  by a team from Phitsanulok Pittayakom School consisting of Jittapon Khajonpirom and Rungsiman Kulpetjira


2. Third Award in Plant Science Category: “Environmental Friendly Seedling Nursery Balls from Cow Dung” by a team from Phanomsarakham Phanom Adun Witthaya School consisting of Sutthida Iamsaard and Thirakarn Wannakarn

3. Fourth Award in Chemistry Category: “Chloramine Test Kits for an Efficient Process of Swimming Pools' Disinfection” by a team from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School consisting of Athicha Santilinon, Napat Sajjamongkol and Natprawee Pattayawij

4. Fourth Award in Systems Software Category: “Approximating the Weight of Sweet Corn Kernels from Digital Images Using Washer Integration” by a team from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Phetchaburi consisting of Chanikarn Prompat, Neeranuch Sudcharoen and Pornchanun Mangmeethanapiboon

5. Fourth Award in Plant Science Category: “Saponin Hydrogel for Controlling Snail Invasion” by a team from Damrongratsongkroh School consisting of Natthamon Sriprom, Phan-Anong Chuenchokchai and Ramita Chueamuangphan

In addition to the main prize, Thai teams also won the following Special Awards:
1. Second Place Award presented by the U.S. Agency for International Development-USAID: “Coating Highland Rice Seeds with Local Spondias pinnata Gum Can Reduce Seedling Mortality Caused By Water Deficit During Rain Delay” by a team from Damrongratsongkroh School consisting of Jetsada Sittikhankaew, Namphung Panya and Phirachat Kochanil

2. Second Life Science Award presented by Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society: “Environmental Friendly Seedling Nursery Balls from Cow Dung” by a team from Phanomsarakham Phanom Adun Witthaya School consisting of Sutthida Iamsaard and Thirakarn Wannakarn

3. Certificate of Honorable Mention presented by American Chemical Society: “Novel Alternative Energy: Seawater Electric Generator Improved by the Catalyst from Waste Lard” by a team from Kamnoetvidya Science Academy consisting of Chawit Kaewnuratchadasorn, Puttaranun Boonchit and Putuchon Vongvorakul

Intel ISEF is the world’s largest high school science competition. The 2019 Intel ISEF had over 1,800 students from 80 countries participating in. There were 17 teams from Thailand joining this exciting event with generous support provided by the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, NSTDA, NECTEC, the National Science Museum, Intel Foundation and Siam Commercial Bank (SCB).
