Thailand is known for its vibrant street food scene. Street food offers convenient, delicious and inexpensive meals and has become part of Thai culture. Stands and street vendors can easily be found along the streets and in markets day and night for locals and tourists to enjoy the taste of Thai cuisine. Despite its popularity, street food suffers from negative reputations for being unsafe and polluting the environment with wastewater discharged directly onto the street, as well as oily fume and cooking odor emissions.

To help food vendors overcome this stigma, Design & Engineering Consulting Service Center (DECC), a unit of NSTDA, has introduced an eco-friendly food cart. The cart is designed with a lightweight body and equipped with high-quality features and equipment, namely running water system, wastewater treatment tank, wash sink, exhaust hood and gas stove. Three types are currently available depending on cooking requirements of vendors.

  • Type 1: Lightweight food cart with running water system, a wastewater treatment tank and a wash sink.
  • Type 2: Lightweight food cart with running water system, a wastewater treatment tank, a wash sink and an exhaust hood.
  • Type 2: Lightweight food cart with running water system, a wastewater treatment tank, a wash sink, an exhaust hood and a double-burner gas stove.

Production of food carts is already underway, and a total of 100 units will be delivered within this year under the campaign supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation in which interested food vendors can own this innovative food cart at a reduced price.
