NSTDA and Chulalongkorn University recently introduced a UV sterilization robot called “Germ Saber Robot”. Germ Saber Robot was co-developed by the National Security and Dual-Use Technology Center (NSD) of NSTDA and the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering of Chulalongkorn University. The robot utilizes powerful UVC rays to kill germs present in the air and on object surfaces and is navigated via a remote control. It works effectively in disinfecting rooms and equipment that cannot be cleaned with chemical disinfectants or exposed to liquid cleaning agents. The sterilization takes 15-30 minutes, and people and animal must leave the scene as UV radiation causes damage to organic cells. Unlike chemical disinfectants, this type of disinfection does not leave chemical residues.
Due to the shortage of cleaning products during the COVID-19 pandemic, Germ Saber Robot is a perfect solution for cleaning and disinfecting an area. A trial operation of the robot will be conducted at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.
