After temporarily closing for 3 months due to COVID-19 lockdown order, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, one of the largest exhibition and convention venues in Asia, is ready to reopen its business as the government is easing the restriction allowing the opening of conference centers for meetings of up to 50 people each. IMPACT will be employing Germ Saber UVC Sterilizer to disinfect its floor space of over 140,000 sqm.

Developed by the National Security and Dual-Use Technology Center (NSD) of NSTDA and the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering of Chulalongkorn University, Germ Saber UVC Sterilizer utilizes UVC rays to kill germs present in the air and on object surfaces. Unlike chemical disinfectants, UV radiation does not leave chemical residues, and does not require workers to perform the cleaning and disinfection.

Each Germ Saber UVC Sterilizer is equipped with 8 UV-C lamps (9,000 hr lamp life). UVC lamps emit UV radiation at 250 nm which can kill 99.9% germs and inhibit the growth of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. The sterilization takes 15-30 minutes and has a 135 cm radius. The prototype has been tested at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

Germ Saber UVC Sterilizer comes in two models: Germ Saber Station and Germ Saber Robot. Both models use a remote control to turn machines on and off.  Germ Saber Station must be manually moved to the spot that needs sterilization, whereas Germ Saber Robot can be navigated with a remote control and has a timer function. Germ Saber Robot is equipped with a battery that takes 4-6 hrs to charge for a 3-hr continuous usage and laser rangefinders to avoid collision. The robot model can also be controlled via an android application.
