The first EU-ASEAN webinar dedicated to High-Performance Computing (HPC) COVID19-related modeling and diagnostic was held on 10 July 2020, as a collaborative initiative among the ASEAN HPC Task Force, the ASEAN Committee for Science Technology and Innovation (COSTI), the ASEAN Secretariat Science & Technology Division, and the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI). The webinar aims to provide an exchange platform to ASEAN and EU HPC-related scientists, projects and research infrastructures, interested in the establishment of collaborations on COVID19 research.

Discussions and presentations from the EU and ASEAN speakers centered around how HPC activities could support COVID19 research and how international collaboration in research and innovation could expedite the fight against COVID19. Thai experts joining the panel of speakers were Dr. Piyawut Srichaikul of NECTEC-NSTDA and Co-Chair of ASEAN HPC Task Force; Prof. Supa Hannongbua of Kasetsart University and President of Chemical Society of Thailand; and Asst. Prof. Thanat Chookajorn who is heading the Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine Unit at Mahidol University.
NSTDA founded STDA Supercomputer Center (ThaiSC) in 2018 as one of the National Science and Technology Infrastructures (NSTI). ThaiSC performs frontier research in computational science, data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) as well as provides high performance computing service to researchers in Thailand to perform computational science research on challenges of national interest.
