On 20 February 2020, a press conference was held announcing the first autonomous vehicle driving test in Thailand. The 8-month demonstration has been carried out at SIRI VENTURES Private PropTech Sandbox located at T77 Community since the last quarter of 2019 and will complete by June 2020.
The project is a public-private partnership in which NSTDA and the Department of Science Service are responsible for developing platform technologies for self-driving vehicles including drive-by-wire technology, integrated sensors, positioning and navigation system, command and control system and high-resolution 3D map, whereas Siri Ventures, the corporate venture capital company of property developer Sansiri, works on user application and data collection and analysis of user feedbacks on the test performed in the controlled environment of T77 Community, a gated community comprising residential and commercial areas.
This demonstration is a major milestone of autonomous vehicle development in Thailand. The technology will soon be transferred to industry for commercialization, starting with AIROVR, a Thai startup pioneering autonomous car development.
