Khlu (Pluchea indica (L.) Less) is an indigenous medicinal plant commonly found in a tropical wet climate in Asia. In southern Thailand, Khlu is used as a traditional medicine. Khlu leaves are dried and used to make herbal tea known for its diuretic and blood sugar lowering effects.
As Khlu extract is reported to have an antioxidant activity, NANOTEC research team in collaboration with Nai Nang community in Krabi province initiated a project to develop shampoo and shower gel containing antioxidant rich Khlu extract based on nanoparticle technology. The manufacturing process has been designed to be simple for community enterprises to operate yet yielding products that meet all quality standards.
This technology is now ready for transfer to community enterprises in Krabi for manufacturing personal care products with a unique cultural identity for hotel and spa businesses.
