A press conference was held on 6 August 2022 at CentralWorld Shopping Complex in Bangkok to unveil food wrapping film made from biodegradable plastic pellets. The invention was the result of collaboration between MTEC-NSTDA, Thantawan Industry Public Company Limited and the Royal Project Foundation, with funding provided by the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC). The event was attended by executives of involved parties, including NSTDA President Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul, the Royal Project Foundation Board Chairman General Kampanart Ruddit, Thantawan Industry Deputy Managing Director Mr. Dejbordin Riensubdee and Prof. Dr. Apanee Luengnaruemitchai, Chairperson of PMUC Bioenergy, Biochemicals and Biomaterials Program Board.
The film is made from biodegradable plastic pellets, making it an excellent choice for green food packaging that both the Royal Project Foundation and Thantawan Industry stand for. The film is now used as packaging for the Royal Project’s ready-to-eat salad to be sold in 18 Royal Project shops nationwide. In addition to thin, transparent, and anti-fog properties that make the product in the container look appealing, this cover film can extend the product’s shelf-life from 3 days to 5 days.
This green packaging represents an innovation supporting the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) and responsible production and consumption goal of SDGs.
