On 16 June 2022, Sumitomo Heavy Industries (Thailand), a subsidiary of Japanese Sumitomo Heavy Industries, signed an agreement to rent a space at the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi) for its new office. Sumitomo Heavy Industries is a world leader in heavy machinery and precision machinery industries.
According to Mr. Akira Yokota, President of Sumitomo Heavy Industries (Thailand), the new office at EECi will showcase the company’s cutting-edge solutions such as mixing vessels and other equipment to manufacturers, especially those in chemical and biochemical industry, based in the EEC area. It will also support research and education in Thailand.
Dr. Janekrishna Kanatharana, NSTDA Executive Vice President in charge of EECi revealed that Sumitomo Heavy Industries is the first Japanese company to sign on as a tenant to EECi. Its presence at EECi will immensely strengthen the growing bioindustry in Thailand and reinforce the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) national agenda.
EECi is Thailand’s new innovation hub, serving as a key infrastructure to drive research, development and innovation to support new growth engines under the BCG model. Essential facilities include Biorefinery Pilot Plant, Sustainable Manufacturing Center, Plant Factory and Plant Phenomics Facility. Official opening of EECi is expected in November 2022.
