The year 2022 marks a challenging milestone as Thailand fully becomes an aged society with the proportion of the population aged 60 and over reaching 20%. Preparation for an aging society is therefore of paramount importance.
Well-Living Systems are designed as a tool to support independent living for seniors and enable relatives and caregivers to remotely monitor the safety of the elderly living. Dr. Sittha Sukkasi, member of MTEC Design and Industry Solutions Research Team, explained that Well-Living Systems are designed with the all-is-well-at-home concept. The Learning and Need-Anticipating Hub (LANAH) employs artificial intelligence and sensor technologies for behavior recognition and alerting caregivers via LANAH App when anomalies are detected.
For health and wellness monitoring, the systems keep track of behaviors via the occupancy sensor, door sensor, gate sensor and logger. Features and equipment include 1) emergency button for alerting caregivers outside the premises, 2) bell for alerting onsite caregivers, 3) fall detection sensor, 4) check-in button to routinely confirm with loved ones that they are well, and 5) wireless speakers connecting to LANAH App enabling caregivers to remotely communicate with the elderly at home in case of emergency.
LANAH App and equipment are being tested in the laboratory and will soon enter field testing stage. The systems can be applied for home use, hospitals and assisted living facilities.
