L’Oreal (Thailand), with the support of Unesco, is accepting applications for scholarships in the fields of material science, life science and chemical science under its “For Women in Science 2013″project.
Over the past 10 years, the annual L’Oreal fellowship project has resulted in the establishment of a dedicated generation of outstanding female scientists who today are key drivers for national science development. It has so far funded 40 women.This year up to five fellowships, each worth 250,000 baht, will be granted to female scientists aged between 25 and 40 years who can demonstrate outstanding work in the fields.
Dr Nisara Karoonuthaisiri, director of the Biotec Microarray laboratory,National Center for Genetic engineering and Biotechnology (Biotec), and recipient of a L’Oreal Life Science fellowship in 2009, encourages those contemplating joining the programme.”The global nature of the programme helped to give my research a wider perspective and recognition, especially within the world scientific community,” she said.
“It has also led to my acceptance both socially and professionally by my peers in Thailand.”
Dr Uracha Ruktanonchai from the National Nanotechnology Center (Nanotec), and a recipient of a L’Oreal material science fellowship in 2011,added her support.”This programme provides practical encouragement to Thai female scientists whose work can only bring benefit to the country. I’m very proud to be part of the L’Oreal fellowship community and found this privilege to be very inspiring and complementing to my career.”
Applications can be submitted from today until April 30. Selection will be conducted between May and June.
Fellowship announcements will be made in July.
