เนื่องในโอกาสวันสตรีสากล ในวันที่ 8 มีนาคม 2557 Generation Challenge Programme หรือ GCP ได้ยกย่องนักวิทยาศาสตร์หญิงจากทั่วโลกที่ทำงานวิจัยด้านปรับปรุงพันธุ์พืชอาหาร อาทิ ข้าว พืชตระกูลถั่ว ธัญพืช ซึ่งมี ดร. โจนาลิซา แอล เซี่ยงหลิว นักวิจัยจากหน่วยปฏิบัติการค้นหาและใช้ประโยชน์ยีนข้าว เป็นหนึ่งในนักวิทยาศาสตร์หญิงที่ได้รับเลือกในครั้งนี้
ดร. โจนาลิซา ดำเนินงานวิจัยด้านการปรับปรุงพันธุ์ข้าวโดยเทคโนโลยีเครื่องหมายโมเลกุลมาช่วยในการคัดเลือก โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการปรับปรุงพันธุ์ “ข้าวทนแล้ง”จนมีความเชี่ยวชาญ และได้ถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยีดังกล่าวให้แก่นักวิจัยจากสถาบันวิจัยข้าวในประเทศไทยและประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน อาทิ พม่า ลาว และกัมพูชา ซึ่งถือเป็นส่วนสำคัญในการส่งเสริมความแข็งแกร่งของเครือข่ายวิจัยข้าวในระดับภูมิภาค
BIOTEC researcher listed among GCP women scientists in celebration of the International Women’s Day
To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March 2014, Generation Challenge Programme (GCP) profiled women scientists from around the world working on cereals, legumes and root crops, using a variety of molecular-breeding methods, slick data management skills and the latest tools and technology. Among these successful women is Dr. Jonaliza Lanceras-Siangliw, BIOTEC researcher based at Rice Gene Discovery Unit.
Dr. Jonaliza Lanceras-Siangliw’s research focuses on drought resistance in rice. She is a key member of BIOTEC’sMolecular Rice Breeding Program for Mekong Region, a project that emphasizes on strengthening rice breeding programmes by using a genotyping building strategy and improving phenotyping capacity for biotic and abiotic stresses. In this project, she works closely with and provides training to rice breeders from neighboring countries, namely Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.
